BEIJING -- China's railway police seized 314 train ticket scalpers and over 40,000 tickets, mostly fakes ones, in its latest campaign against ticket scalping ahead of and during the Spring Festival travel rush.

Railway police across the country have stepped up patrolling and surveillance of railway stations and nearby places since Dec. 6 when the campaign started, according to the railway security authorities.

They have also collected clues from whistleblowers through call-in tips and social media platforms such as WeChat.

The Spring Festival, or the lunar Chinese New Year, falls on Feb 5, 2019. The holiday travel rush runs from Jan 21 to March 1.
