The former deputy head of Jilin's discipline inspection commission, Qiu Daming, has been expelled from the Party and removed from public office for serious violations of Party discipline and the law, the Central Commission for Discipline Inspection and the National Supervisory Commission announced in a statement posted on their website on Thursday.

Qiu, 56, who was also deputy director of Jilin's supervisory commission, had been under investigation since September.

According to the authorities, Qiu violated political disciplines and rules, including interfering with investigations, leaking information about a central inspection team's work, illegally interfering in the investigation of cases of violation of discipline and law and fighting against inspection by the authorities.

The statement said Qiu had repeatedly accepted benefits that may have affected the fair performance of his official duties, including attending banquets, using public cars for private use and accepting gifts.

He also engaged in profit-making activities in violation of regulations. Making use of his power and position, he purchased houses at low prices and sought profits for himself and his close relatives.

Qiu also took advantage of the convenience of his position to embezzle public funds, and sought benefits for others in return for huge amounts of property,

The authorities said Qiu, one of the leading cadres in the provincial discipline inspection department, lost his ideals, faith and political consciousness and turned the power of supervision and enforcement into a tool for advancing personal interests.

Born in 1962, Qiu earned a master's degree at Jilin University of Technology in 1996. He started his career in 1984 in the personnel department of Jilin Institute of Technology.

He was appointed deputy secretary of the provincial Discipline Inspection Commission in 2014 and became deputy director of the provincial Supervisory Commission this year.

Qiu has also been dismissed as a member of the 11th Jilin Provincial Committee of the Communist Party of China, and his qualification as a delegate to the 11th Jilin provincial Party congress was also terminated.

The suspected crimes and property involved in Qiu's case have been transferred to the procuratorate for review and prosecution.
