WARSAW -- A 28-year-old Polish man was charged with "deliberately creating the danger of a fire" which led to a blaze in the escape room and killed five teenage girls, local media reported on Sunday.

The fire broke out on Friday afternoon at a residential building in Koszalin, a city in the northwest of Poland, and killed five girls during an escape game.

Ryszard Gasiorowski, a spokesman for Koszalin district prosecutor, was quoted by the Polish PAP news agency as saying that the suspect had neglected to ensure escape routes which could have allowed the girls to flee when the fire broke out.

Escape Room game is popular among Polish teenagers. It is a physical adventure game in which players are locked in a room and given a set time limit to solve a series of riddles to get out.
