On a shimmering lake, Yang Yupan releases an osprey, which dives into the water and comes back with a fish in its mouth.
Yang is one of few fishermen using this ancient fishing technique. The intangible cultural heritage of Southwest China’s Yunnan province is now a draw for tourists at Longhu Lake and has become a major attraction in the Dai autonomous prefecture of Xishuangbanna in the province.
For his skills, Yang, who was born into a fishing family stretching back generations, has been dubbed the Prince of Ospreys.
