Xinhua | Updated: 2019-02-16 12:24

BEIJING - Chinese universities have been urged to regularly train and educate students and faculty members on infectious disease prevention and control to equip them with related skills and knowledge.

Health training and education received by a university student each academic year should be no less than one academic hour, and for a freshman such programs should be given within the first month of the first semester, says guidelines jointly released the Ministry of Education and the National Health Commission.

Universities are asked to ensure students and school staff receive regular physical examinations and maintain health records. They are also urged to report any confirmed or suspected case of infectious diseases to local health authorities and take necessary preventive and control measures following the guidance of health agencies.

Moreover, the document demands efforts from higher education institutions to ensure safe drinking water and environmental hygiene.
