State Councilor and Foreign Minister Wang Yi said on Thursday that China hopes the parties involved in unrest in Venezuela can promote peace talks to create favorable conditions for the proper settlement of the issue, within the framework of the country's constitution.

Wang made the statement when meeting with representatives from Caribbean countries with diplomatic ties with China, during the seventh inter-foreign ministries consultations in Beijing on Thursday.

Wang said the situation in Venezuela is, by its very nature, a domestic issue for the South American country.

The peaceful resolution of the issue through dialogue and consultation, along with the maintenance of the country's stability and development, is not only in the interests of Venezuela itself, but also in the common interests of a number of countries, including those from the Caribbean region, he said.
