People's Daily and the Soong Ching Ling Foundation on Friday launched a nonprofit foundation in Beijing.

The fund will organize and promote charity events, and aims to encourage people and companies to practice social responsibility.

Foundation chairperson Wang Jiarui said at a press conference that he hopes to build an innovative, integrated and open platform to organize increasing nonprofit activities.

China's Ping An Insurance for example has launched a campaign addressing rural poverty, establishing a fund that will help promote and subsidize grassroots initiatives.

People's Daily president Li Baoshan said the paper wanted to explore new methods of partnership between media, organizations and enterprises, in news production and promotion.

Online video platform Bilibili became the foundation's first donor, saying it wants to help promote mainstream media and participate in collaborative video production, especially with those spreading positive energy.
