A1 With tremendous, comprehensive and profound efforts in transforming the country, China has successfully lifted itself from one of the least developed countries to the second-largest economy in the world. The wisdom generated from the turnaround can prepare China to better support its economic uplift and social well-being domestically and a shared future for mankind globally.
Accenture's business development in China reflects this transformation and the firm has thrived together with local companies. We have been on the Chinese mainland for more than 30 years, starting with 100 employees and growing to having some 15,000 in the country today. We witnessed and experienced the first round of State-owned enterprise reform in the late 1990s, urbanization, the globalization of Chinese companies, industrial upgrading, and today's digital transformation.
A2 To better catch the opportunities high-quality growth presents in the digital era, consultancies like us will explore uncharted waters together with our clients in China. We are investing heavily to build or acquire new capabilities, especially to help Chinese enterprises unlock trapped value and find new businesses in their transformation journeys. Second, we are making changes to how we operate and how we deliver our services. We are becoming leaner in structure and more nimble in the digitally contested consulting and IT services market. So we can move toward deeper engagement to co-create, and share tangible outcomes with our clients.
A4 China's economy is shifting from investment to consumption. In the future, the pace of the consumer market will increase as people are constantly pursuing better lives. New trends led by digital and intelligent technologies are reshaping the services sector. Both global and Chinese companies are investing in such technology combinations. In the pursuit of new customer experience, Accenture is helping its clients from various industries to remain relevant and generate new revenue streams by becoming more human-centric, delivering individualized relationships and protecting customer data, and more importantly, building digital trust.
A5 China has demonstrated its great determination to transform government functions to beef up market-oriented reform, encourage innovation, support the private sector or enhance welfare.
With the Internet Plus initiative, the Chinese government has actively adopted digital approaches to create connected, integrated and personalized services in transportation, utilities, education, tax, business license application and so on. Through multiple user-friendly channels, the government is interacting with citizens in cost-effective ways while improving satisfaction and engagement throughout public services.
