1 killed, 10 injured in 2 Afghan explosions

KABUL, March 17  -- One child was killed and 10 people were wounded in two separate explosions in Afghanistan on Sunday, authorities said.

In one incident, five civilians, including a woman, were wounded after a sticky improvised explosive device (IED) attached to a sedan was detonated at a main traffic circle in Pul-e-Khumir city, capital of northern Baghlan province on midday, provincial public health official, Anwar Wardak, told Xinhua.

Four seriously wounded people will be shifted to neighboring Kunduz province for intensive medical care, he said.

In eastern Nangarhar province, one child was killed and one civilian and four local pro-government tribal militias, known as local uprising fighters, were injured when an IED was detonated near a shrine in Khogyani district earlier in the day, provincial government spokesman Attahullah Khogyani told Xinhua.

The injured were shifted to a hospital in Jalalabad city, he said.

The officials blamed the enemies of peace, referring to the Taliban militant group, for the attack.

More than 3,800 civilians were killed and over 7,180 others were injured in conflict-related incidents in 2018 in the war-torn country, according to the United Nations mission's figures.
