Governments at various levels last year handled 257,000 administrative reconsideration cases, the Ministry of Justice said Tuesday.

Of these 224,000 were concluded.

As an internal, governmental self-correction mechanism, administrative reconsideration is a legal system for higher authorities to supervise law enforcement at lower levels.

Whenever an individual or enterprise thinks a specific act infringes on their rights or interests, they can apply for administrative reconsideration.

Among the concluded cases about 30,000 decisions were overturned or changed.

In the industrial and commercial administration sector, the number of cases saw a decrease of 38.3 percent, while pricing and transport registered decreases of 33.4 and 28.9 percent, respectively.

The sharp decreases in key sectors is due to the government improving the business climate, said Zhao Dacheng, vice-minister of justice.

Last year saw a significant increase in the number of such cases related to the environment, with a year-on-year increase of 42.4 percent, due to intensified regulation in the sector, he said.
