Gong Deqing, 32, a farmer in Bayan county, is temporary manager of the kitchen.

His 10-year-old daughter was diagnosed with leukemia in March 2017 and almost every month the family seeks treatment in Harbin.

"I'm in charge of daily management of the kitchen," he said. "Before it opened for the day, I often slept in the apartment to save money, thus to me, it is a home to me and other parents."

"We are all in similar situations here and we can understand each other," he said, referring to other families whose children are ill.
