BEIJING -- Central authorities have launched the second round of inspections of a national crackdown on gang crime.

From April 1 to 10, inspection teams were deployed to 11 provinces, autonomous regions and municipalities as well as the Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps to oversee crackdown operations against gangs and organized crime.

Meetings were also held in the 11 regions, calling for thorough investigations of the "protective umbrellas" behind criminal gangs and eradication of the hotbed of gangs.

Headed by provincial-level officials, the 11 inspection teams will be stationed in the inspected regions for one month.

Tip-off hotlines, email addresses and post boxes have been publicized to accept public complaints on local gang-related activities.

Training was held in Beijing on March 27 for the second and third rounds of inspection.

The third round of inspection, also the last, will be launched in June. A re-inspection of the first round of inspection work will be conducted in May to ensure the problems do not reoccur.
