BEIJING - China conducted fire risk assessments in over 31,000 museums and cultural relics across the country in 2018 to guarantee the safety of cultural heritage.

More than 61,000 hidden fire hazards were detected and rectified during the assessment, according to the Ministry of Culture and Tourism Thursday.

Fire risk is one of the top three threats to the safety of cultural heritage and relics in China.

Apart from fire risk, a batch of violations endangering World Cultural Heritage and cultural heritage from revolutionary times were also tackled, according to the ministry.

In 2018, China had more than 49.6 million cultural relics, with 75.7 percent collected and stored in museums.
