Xinjiang receives 3.84m visitors during Dragon Boat Festival holiday

URUMQI - Northwest China's Xinjiang Uygur autonomous region received around 3.84 million tourists during the three-day Dragon Boat Festival holiday, a year-on-year increase of 43.25 percent, the regional department of culture and tourism said Monday.
The tourists have brought nearly 3.9 billion yuan ($564 million) in tourism revenue to the region, a yearly increase of 55.36 percent.
About 2.8 million visits came from tourists within the region, an increase of 45 percent from a year ago. The number of non-local tourists also rose dramatically by 38 percent to 1.04 million, which brought in tourism revenue of nearly 3 billion yuan.
Urumqi, the regional capital, received more than 1.25 million visits during the three-day holiday, up 92.4 percent year on year.
In addition to traditional festival-related activities, self-driving tours, fruit-picking and sports activities have also drawn a growing number of visitors this year.
