Tianjin seeks more design talent amid UNESCO city bid

Tianjin is committed to introduce more design talent with ambitious goals and innovative ideas as it applies to become a City of Design in the UNESCO Global Creative City Network, 2019.

In order to promote to the development of a high-end service industry innovation cluster and respond to Tianjin's call for an application to become a City of Design in the UNESCO Creative City Network, the North Design Union will introduce and foster a new generation of comprehensive design talent with international influence and strong ingenuity.

To create a headquarters for a design industry that meets the requirements of a modern design space, the North Design Union Headquarters – Architectural Design Competition 2019 was launched Dec 24, 2018, and just revealed the results.

According to organizer, this competition attracted 704 contestants from 210 cities across 50 countries. Through the competition, the union not only gained a lot of forward-looking design ideas, but also played a positive role in bringing global attention to Hexi and facilitating Tianjin's UNESCO application.

Based on the competition, the North Design Union will create a number of R&D design buildings and parks promoting the Chentang National Independent Innovation Demonstration Zone to become a design industry cluster. This competition will provide a powerful boost for the integration and development of the union's design industry and other related industries, as well as communication between the design industry in Hexi District and other industries at a global level.

Jiang Dezhi, director of the Tianjin Hexi district, said, "This design competition is the first such event held by the union. It follows the new trend in design industry development, effectively establishes a new platform for the combination of production and learning, and also creates a new mode for training and selecting design talent. "

Tianjin has abundant historical resources in the creative design industry as well as regional advantages. In 2019, Tianjin formally launched its efforts to become a City of Design in the UNESCO Global Creative City Network. Through this competition, it will attract more design talent with ambitious goals and innovative ideas to Tianjin and its Hexi district.
