Western Europe hit by record heat wave

On Wednesday, Dutch and Belgian meteorological services recorded similar peaks around 39 C, beating their record temperatures documented in the 1940s.

Britain experienced its hottest day of the year so far, and was expecting its hottest on record, with temperatures of up to 39 C forecast in southern and eastern England.
