Huawei on Friday unveiled its first commercial 5G smartphone in China, as the Chinese tech giant scrambles to be among the first to give domestic consumers the access to the groundbreaking technology.

Priced at 6,199 yuan ($900) in China, the Mate 20 X comes with a 7.2 inch- screen, which is designed for a truly immersive experience so that gamers and people who binge on films and TV shows can get the best from the phone, Huawei said.

He Gang, president of Huawei's consumer business group, said the handset is the first in the world to support standalone and non-standalone 5G networks.

Its downloading peak speed can be 10 times as fast as 4G smartphones, He said.
