At the invitation of Chinese President Xi Jinping, Colombian President Ivan Duque Marquez will pay a state visit to China from July 28 to 31, the Chinese Foreign Ministry said on Tuesday.

Duque's visit will be the most important bilateral exchange between China and Colombia this year. It also is the first meeting between the two heads of state after Duque took office.

Xi will hold a welcoming ceremony and a banquet for Duque, hold talks with Duque, and jointly attend the signing ceremony for the cooperation documents.

The two countries are negotiating to sign a number of cooperation agreements in the fields of education, justice, agriculture, agricultural imports, e-commerce and finance.
