HONG KONG - A group of about 40 people gathered this morning at the Golden Bauhinia Square in Hong Kong in a show of solidarity and patriotism ahead of the National Day.

They sang the Chinese national anthem and waved the Chinese national flags as a way of voicing support to the motherland and disapproval to the civil disturbance.

The original intention of the gathering was to show support for a Weibo's trending activity, which calls for people to take group photos with the national flags, according to Wei Jie, a 23-year-old student who organized the event.

This patriotic flash mob was the latest in a series of gatherings held in various locations, including the Central's upscale shopping mall IFC and Pacific Place in Admiralty.

These gatherings were a show of solidarity among the silent majority against the violent protests that have wreaked havoc in the city for more than three months.
