BEIJING - Chinese lawmakers on Saturday reviewed the draft revisions to the law on the protection of minors and the law on the prevention of juvenile delinquency at the bimonthly session of the National People's Congress (NPC) Standing Committee.

Li Zhanshu, chairman of the NPC Standing Committee, attended the panel discussions.

As the protection of minors is currently facing a variety of problems, the draft revision to the minors protection law made positive responses to issues concerning minors such as family guardianship, campus safety and internet addiction which had drawn wide attention from the public, and met the practical needs in the work on minors protection, according to the legislators.

Given the new challenges posed by the new circumstances in juvenile delinquency, the draft revision to the juvenile delinquency prevention law adequately handled the law's coordination with other relevant laws, encouraged the participation of social forces, and specified rectification measures, the lawmakers said.

They suggested further modification and improvement of the two draft revisions for them to be adopted as soon as possible, so as to provide stronger legal guarantee for the protection of minors and the prevention of juvenile delinquency.

The lawmakers also deliberated other drafts that would be submitted for voting on Saturday.
