Do teachers have the right to discipline students?

Markwu (Malaysia)

Disciplining is an onerous task which teachers have to do because there is no one else to do it and, if not done, more of the same bad actions will be committed that disrupt the objectives of teaching and learning, and character building for the later part of life and in society, which the teacher and educator has the responsibility to uphold.

Parents should support the teacher if only because they themselves have not done their own disciplining of their children. If they had, there would not have been any reason to have the teacher take over the role.

The headmaster must however set up proper and wise rules on how to discipline that will make sure teachers don't overdo it until it scars the child's mind and body into the future.
