Chinese delegation visits Egypt

China Daily | Updated: 2019-11-25 09:21

CAIRO - A delegation of the China Foundation for Human Rights Development paid a visit to Egypt from Thursday to Saturday, during which the two sides discussed increasing exchanges and cooperation in the field of human rights promotion.

The delegation was led by Huang Mengfu, chairman of the foundation, who held a meeting with Mohamed Fayek, head of Egypt's National Council for Human Rights.

During the meeting, Huang, who is also the former vice-chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference, outlined the achievements and progress China has made in human rights development in the past seven decades since the founding of the People's Republic of China.

China pursues a people-centered concept of human rights, combines the universal principle of human rights with its own reality, and regards the right to survival and development as the primary human right, said Huang.

Noting that China has established the world's largest education and social security system and lifted more than 700 million people out of poverty, Huang said China has developed an approach to human rights development that suits its national conditions and ensures the fulfillment of the rights of its people.

Countries should respect each other on handling human rights situations given their different national conditions, social systems or cultural traditions, Huang said while stressing that China opposes using human rights as an excuse to interfere in other countries' internal affairs, create social panic or undermine social security.

Hailing the progress China has made in its human rights development as well as the positive role China has played in international affairs and the field of human rights, the Egyptian side said Egypt and China share a similar stand on the human rights issue, and that it hopes to increase communication and cooperation with the foundation and other similar Chinese organizations in boosting the development of human rights worldwide.

After Egypt, the Chinese delegation will visit Israel and Turkey.
