Chinese shares close lower Friday

BEIJING - Chinese stocks closed lower on Friday, with the benchmark Shanghai Composite Index down 0.61 percent, at 2,871.98 points.
The Shenzhen Component Index closed 0.42 percent lower at 9,582.16 points.
The combined turnover of stocks covered by the two indices stood at 341.6 billion yuan ($48.59 billion), expanding from 317.9 billion yuan in the previous trading day.
Most stocks rose, with gainers outnumbering losers by 710 to 662 on the Shanghai bourse and 1,163 to 852 in Shenzhen.
Companies in the sectors of mechanical engineering posted strong performance, with shares of Anhui Quanchai Engine Co Ltd surging by 2.59 percent to close at 10.31 yuan per share.
Shares related to medicine led the losses.
The ChiNext Index, China's NASDAQ-style board of growth enterprises, lost 0.53 percent to close at 1,664.9 points.
