China's express deliveries hit 63.52b

China's annual business volume of express deliveries exceeded 63.52 billion items, increasing 25.3 percent compared with the previous year. Total revenue of delivery enterprises hit 749.78 billion yuan ($108.85 billion) in 2019, showing a rapid growth of 24.2 percent.

As shown in a report released by China's State Post Bureau on Jan 14, Guangzhou ranked top for express business volume in 2019, hitting 6.34 billion items in total, followed by Yiwu in Zhejiang province with 5.92 billion.

Express delivery services also made impressive progress overseas, with 1.44 billion packages delivered to international destinations as well as Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan, representing a 29.9 percent increase year-on-year.

In terms of the country's express delivery revenue, Shanghai placed No 1 with 128.88 billion yuan in 2019, while Guangzhou ranked second with 63.54 billion yuan.

The reports showed the revenue from China's postal industry, which generated 964.25 billion yuan in 2019, rising 22 percent. The industry's business volume totaled 1.62 trillion yuan, up 31.5 percent from the previous year.

In the postal service industry, the growth of business volume remained strong at 26 percent, reaching 250.63 billion yuan. More than 24.76 billion packages were delivered via postal service, rising 4.3 percent, and total revenue grew by 17.2 percent to 43.16 billion yuan.

However, other delivery services in the postal industry, such as mail, parcels, newspapers, magazines and remittance services all faced declines from the previous year.

According to the report, China's brand concentration index in the express delivery industry was 82.5, increasing 0.2 percent compared with the period from Jan to Nov.
