The role of the UN's ally and effective partner also led to the decision to open the UN Regional Center for Preventive Diplomacy for Central Asia in Ashgabat in 2007.
"We took this as a great responsibility and at the same time as evidence of confidence in Turkmenistan from the United Nations," the president said.
"The UN can always rely on the support of Turkmenistan, which uses political and diplomatic means to create an atmosphere of mutual understanding and trust in the region," Berdimuhamedov said.
Speaking at the Conference "Turkmenistan and International Organizations: Cooperation for Peace and Development", President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov said that the establishment by the UN on the proposal of Turkmenistan of the International Day of Neutrality, which is celebrated on December 12, indicates the importance of neutrality in modern conditions.
President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov said that the importance of neutrality in contemporary conditions is evidenced by the fact that on the proposal of Turkmenistan the United Nations established the International Day of Neutrality, which is celebrated on December 12. The relevant UN resolution emphasizes the importance of the neutrality policy in strengthening international peace and security at both the regional and global levels.
Being a neutral state, Turkmenistan considers establishing a culture of dialogue in resolving emerging issues and contradictions as one of its priority objectives, the Turkmen leader said. It was on the initiative of Turkmenistan that the UN General Assembly adopted a Resolution declaring 2021 to be the International Year of Peace and Trust.
This Resolution highlights the importance of the preventive diplomacy to which Turkmenistan is committed. According to Berdimuhamedov, preventive diplomacy should play a more significant role in preventing conflicts, establishing and maintaining peace as one of the effective instruments of multilateral diplomacy.
The Turkmen leader said that this Resolution is rather relevant in the light of the trends in international policy, when a difficult situation is observed in a number of regions of the globe, conflict zones expand and the level of trust and mutual understanding decreases.
