China's 5G phone shipments surpass 5m in January

BEIJING - Shipments of 5G cellphones in China reached 5.47 million units in January, data from the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology showed Wednesday.
Last month, the gross mobile phone shipments in the domestic market stood at 20.81 million units, with Chinese brands accounting for 88 percent.
The data also showed that domestic brands took the lion's share of new phone models in the period, which stood at 97.1 percent.
The ministry said it will advance 5G network construction, promote 5G application to boost the consumption of smart terminals.
