The US's accusations about China in an arms-control compliance report are "totally untrue", Beijing said on Thursday.

China has implemented earnestly its international duties and commitments, upheld multilateralism and made important contributions to maintaining the international arms-control and nonproliferation regime, Foreign Ministry spokesman Zhao Lijian said at a daily news conference.

Zhao made the remark after the US Department of State issued an executive summary of the annual report.

China has always believed that arms control and non-proliferation treaties are important pillars for international peace and security, and should be observed, Zhao said.

The US, on the other hand, has pursued "America First" in the field of arms control and non-proliferation in recent years by pulling out of deals, such as the Iran nuclear deal and the Intermediate-Range Nuclear Forces Treaty, Zhao said.

The US, which has "seriously undermined global strategic balance and stability", should examine itself instead of making irresponsible comments about other countries, he said.
