Migu Co Ltd, a subsidiary of China Mobile, the nation's largest telecom operator, will step up the push to support virtual reality content creators, as the company aims to build a vibrant ecosystem to accelerate the popularity of VR.

Yuan Min, deputy general manager of Migu Video, said the company will pour in more resources to assist the production of high-quality VR content, as the commercialization of 5G will fuel the industry's growth.

"VR is a major 5G-powered application, and it is closely bounded to the development of 5G. As China expedites efforts to roll out 5G, VR is also expected to see faster expansion," Yuan said.

China Mobile's Cloud VR platform has already played an active part in offering rich VR content to consumers amid the COVID-19 pandemic. For instance, it has enabled consumers to see the 360-degree live streaming of Mount Qomolangma online.

Yuan said the company's Cloud VR platform is currently dedicated to enabling consumers to access VR content on smartphones, TVs and VR goggles, so that more people can know exactly what VR is and enjoy its beauty.

As the prices of VR hardware go down, and VR content becomes increasingly abundant and diversified, more people will buy and embrace professional VR goggles, Yuan added.

According to her, Migu also will introduce new VR applications, such as VR concerts and VR fitness courses, in the near future to meet consumers' diversified demand.

China Mobile is one of the organizers of the Fifth Global Virtual Reality Conference, which will be held online from May 17 to 18.
