Heavy rain on Wednesday left six people dead, one missing and three injured in Baojing county, Central China's Hunan province.

The sudden rain triggered geological accidents, including several landslides and mud flows, according to Baojing county's official Weibo account on Wednesday.

The rain also destroyed six houses.

The government organized search and rescue teams immediately after the accidents happened early in the morning. Meanwhile, local governments will strengthen natural disaster prevention work to avoid more damage.

On Monday, the Ministry of Civil Affairs said heavy rain in the southern part of the country resulted in nine people killed and another five missing in eight provincial regions, including Hunan and Southwest China's Guizhou provinces and South China's Guangxi Zhuang autonomous region.

More than 1.7 million people were affected.
