The construction of a new 10-billion-yuan, 5.13-hectare film center in Shanghai's Songjiang district started on June 10.

The Yangtze Delta International Film and TV Center project by the Zhejiang Huace Film and TV Group Co is slated to become an industrial base for film and television productions and will host studios, incubation projects and technology development initiatives.

The first phase of the project - the high-tech studio zone - is expected to be completed by the end of 2021.

Upon completion of the entire project in 2023, the center will have more than 100 film, TV or commercial shows being produced at the same time. About 5000 people are expected to work at the center, which will also provide training to more than 2,000 people in the filmmaking industry.

The center also plans to invite between 200 and 300 business operations related to the filmmaking industry chain to set up offices in the area.

According to Zhao Yifang, founder and president of Huace Group, China's cultural industries has great potential for success and "the industry needs new platforms such as the Yangtze Delta International Film and TV Center."
