chinadaily.com.cn | Updated: 2020-06-12 10:41

With a history of more than 750 years, Beijing's central axis stretches around 7.8 kilometers, connecting numerous historical spots such as the Temple of Heaven, the Forbidden City and the Bell and Drum Towers.

This weekend, China Daily reporter Owen Fishwick will take you to the Bell and Drum Towers, which sit astride the northerly point of this axis, in a livestream joined by Hou Zhaonian, a reseacher in ancient architecture.

The Bell and Drum Towers were used to tell time during the Yuan, Ming and Qing Dynasties (1271-1911). The livestream will lead you on a cultural tour of the two towers, immersing viewers in knowledge about ancient architectures and treating them to a drum show. You will also learn about the central axis of the ancient city.

The livestream is part of a relay broadcast of 6 iconic attractions along Beijing's central axis on Saturday. Stay tuned to the China Daily app to watch LIVE at 1 pm.
