Chinese companies need to speed up data protection: Report

More efforts are needed from Chinese companies to speed up their data protection development to further embrace digital transformation for new growth engines, according to a recent report.

According to the 2020 Data Protection Trends Report by data-related service provider Veeam, 47 percent of Chinese companies surveyed said they are being hindered in their digital transformation process, mainly due to lack of IT skills and reliance on traditional technologies.

Moreover, almost every company surveyed worldwide admitted to have experienced downtime. On average, 1 out of every 10 servers has experienced unexpected outages each year, the report said.

As it is a problem that may last for hours and cost hundreds of thousands of dollars, the report noted that it is urgent for companies to bring in modernized data protection solutions to tackle such bottlenecks.

"Data protection has again become the focus after the two sessions. We are pleased to see that the Chinese government and enterprises are increasingly focusing on data protection and gradually accelerating digital transformation," said Zhang Hong, general manager of Veeam China.

However, Zhang pointed out that companies still face many challenges. For instance, many companies have not started backing up data. Some companies use local tools for backup due to the lack of professional technology due to lack of personnel, professional skills and insufficient budget.

"Thereby, facing the increasingly complex multi-cloud environment in the future, more and more enterprises are expected to adopt cloud backup to make data more valuable," Zhang added.
