Chinese-French artist's iconic work fetches $25m

He mostly painted flowers, such as chrysanthemums, which traditionally symbolize scholarly nobility and integrity when presented in a simple composition, and the pots are often Chinese-style clay or ceramic pots.

And he added such elements as oracle-bone scripts and patterns from archaic bronze wares. 

The paintings not only celebrate Chang's tasteful blending of the East and West, and of the old and the present. They also convey a man's homesickness and loneliness, which touch Chinese audiences as they've become more familiar with the painter in recent years.
