HONG KONG - New People's Party Chairwoman Regina Ip Lau Suk-yee will seek re-election in the upcoming legislative polls due to be held on September 6.

The party said on Friday that Ip, a former secretary for security, will stand in the Hong Kong Island constituency, while new party member Dominic Lee Tsz-king will compete for the New Territories East seat in his second bid to enter the Legislative Council.

Ip said she hopes to restore order in the legislature, whose operations had been repeatedly disrupted by opposition lawmakers in the past, causing important bills, particularly on livelihood matters, to be held back. She pledged that if re-elected, she would promote reform in the legislative system and help young people to better understand the nation and "one country, two systems".

Other candidates who have so far submitted their nomination forms to run in the Hong Kong Island constituency include Horace Cheung Kwok-kwan, Aron Kwok Wai-keung, Fergus Leung Fong-wai, Tiffany Yuen Ka-wai, Tang Wai Chun, Chong Tsz Yan and Cheng Tat-hung.

For the New Territories East constituency, those who have handed in their nomination forms so far include Gary Chan Hak-kan, Elizabeth Quat Pui-fan, Lam Hak-lam, Chan Yuk-ngor, Wong Siu-kin, Ventus Lau Wing-hong, Gwyneth Ho Kwai-lam, Alvin Yeung Ngok-kiu and Raymond Chan Chi-chuen.

The Registration and Electoral Office said it has received 75 nomination forms since the start of the nomination on July 18. The nomination period will continue until July 31.
