Xinhua | Updated: 2020-08-18 16:08

ZHENGZHOU -- The Yellow River has seen its fifth flood of the year due to continuous rainfall, Yellow River Conservancy Commission of the Ministry of Water Resources said Tuesday.

After heavy rains recently, the amount of water flowing per second at Tongguan hydrologic station in Northwest China's Shaanxi province has increased to 5,050 cubic meters, the commission said.

The commission has asked local governments along the middle and lower reaches of the Yellow River, China's second-longest, to continue monitoring the situation and enhance patrols on flood control projects.

Since the first flooding occurred on June 19, there have been five floods in the Yellow River this year, including three in the upper reaches and two in the middle.
