Political and legal organs in China have made important achievements in strengthening the supervision of power and responding to public concerns since the implementation of comprehensively deepening reform in the political and legal field in early 2019.

For example, from January to June, procuratorial organs nationwide initiated 2,265 lawsuits in the public interest.

In addition, about 25,000 kilograms of inferior food and over 24 kilograms of counterfeit and smuggled drugs were withdrawn from the market.

The Central Committee for Deepening Overall Reform adopted a document on the implementation of comprehensively deepening reform in the political and legal fields in January 2019.

It stressed the need to implement the judicial responsibility mechanism across the board, deepen litigation reform and establish a political and legal service system that benefits the public.

Additionally, it required the prompt improvement of mechanisms for supervising and restricting the exercise of power.

To protect the interests of migrant workers, the Ministry of Justice opened a green channel in May 2019 for them to seek help for their unpaid wages through the China legal service network, where they can get legal consultation, seek legal aid and report problems.

The people's court nationwide has also established and improved a one-stop litigation service for cases when migrant workers wages are in arrears to minimize the cost for them to protect their rights.

Guo Shengkun, a member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China Central Committee, stressed at a meeting in May that the reform in the political and legal fields should adhere to the result-oriented approach and strengthen the supervision and administration of judicial power.

Guo, also the head of the Commission for Political and Legal Affairs of the CPC Central Committee, said that the reform should also focus on promoting post-COVID-19 economics and social development and meet the people's new expectations.
