Sixty-five government employees in the Inner Mongolia autonomous region received punishment as of Aug 21 for breaking laws or regulations that resulted in a criminal staying at large for seven years while serving prison sentences, the top anti-graft body said on Wednesday.

Wang Yunhong, who was sentenced to death in 2005 with a two-year reprieve by a court in Hohhot, capital of the autonomous region, for homicide, was commuted to life imprisonment in 2008 and later the sentence was reduced to 15 years until Mar 10, 2026, the Central Commission for Discipline Inspection said in a statement on its website.

However, Wang gained a six-month medical parole in April 2011 for heart disease, and later got another six medical paroles after approval from the prison supervision bureau of the Inner Mongolia autonomous region, resulting in him being free of prison for seven years, the statement said. Wang was readmitted to prison in June 2019.

Investigation found all medical paroles except the first were illegally approved after false documents were presented by doctors from a hospital affiliated to the prison supervision bureau.

Jiang Heping, a former chief official of Inner Mongolia autonomous region's prison supervision bureau, was removed from his post and stripped of his Party membership. Others that received punishment included officials and doctors from 26 organizations, with some facing criminal punishment, the statement said.
