A female shop assistant who insulted tourists has apologized after the local government in Dali, Yunnan province, launched an investigation and ordered her store to close on Thursday.

"After thinking about it for a long time, I should apologize," the woman said in an online video. "My inappropriate words hurt tourists, the feelings of netizens, the business of my boss and the image of the city."

The woman, who was identified by her red clothing, quickly attracted criticism from netizens. It showed her verbally abusing tourists who refused to purchase drums in her store in Dali's Shuanglang township.

"Poor wretch, do not go out for tours if you do not have money," she shouted at the people.

An investigation was launched after a video was published online by a netizen named Sade Shushu, or Uncle Sade, on Oct 5. The video showed the woman in red woman abusing the tourists.

The woman in red disappeared for a few days after the video appeared.

Authorities ordered the store to close for a month for improvement while the woman was educated about how to improve her service.

The store will be allowed to reopen if the government approves.
