Guangdong province, an economic powerhouse in South China, has so far built 98,613 5G base stations covering major cities in the Pearl River Delta region, according to local authorities.

In the first eight months of this year, the province completed construction of 61,625 5G base stations, with the number of 5G users exceeding 20.7 million, according to the Department of Industry and Information Technology of Guangdong province.

The province will continue to beef up the construction of 5G infrastructure, and more efforts will be made to improve indoor 5G networks in places such as commercial buildings, residential areas and industrial parks.

By the end of this year, the 5G networks will cover county-level cities in the eastern, western and northern areas of Guangdong, according to the authorities.

Guangdong has developed a sound 5G industrial cluster, with about 1,600 companies covering chips, components and parts, raw materials, manufacturing equipment and terminal products.
