6 killed, 24 wounded in explosions, rocket attacks in Afghanistan's capital

KABUL - At least six people were killed and two dozen others wounded in two explosions and ensuing rocket attacks in Kabul, capital of Afghanistan on Saturday, officials and witnesses said.

Among the casualties five bodies and 21 wounded in the rocket attacks were transported by the Kabul Ambulance Service to hospitals, the Public Health Ministry's press office told reporters via a text message.

One person was killed and three others wounded in one of the improvised bomb explosions.

"Fourteen rockets fired from two small trucks from two separate locations in Police District (PD) 7 and nearby PD 17. The rockets hit separate locations in PD 10, PD 4, and PD 2," Tariq Arian, spokesman of the Ministry of Interior, told Xinhua.

The Kabul Police and intelligence agency personnel located the trucks and also defused one rocket remained in one of the vehicles, he said.

"The two improvised bomb explosions hit two vehicles in the morning rush hour. The blasts followed by rocket firing when militants fired at least 10 rockets from a mini truck. The rockets struck multiple locations in the city," witness Mohammad Usman told Xinhua.

The rocket explosions caused panic among the people as people were taking refuge from rockets, he said.

Police vans and ambulances of Kabul Ambulance Service were running around the city to transport wounded people.

No group has claimed responsibility for the attacks so far.

Over the past months, big Afghan cities have witnessed a spate of terror attacks by Taliban insurgents and Islamic State (IS) outfit opposing the government.
