China State Construction Engineering Corp (CSCEC), the nation's largest builder, hosted another Open Day event on Friday, showcasing its efforts and achievements in enhancing ties with Belt and Road economies amid COVID-19 pandemic.

The company launched its latest online Open Day to enable viewers across the world to take a closer look at the Bulim Square project in Singapore, which features many of the company's cutting-edge building technologies.

The event is the latest in a series of online programs officially launched by CSCEC on Sept 4, offering viewers worldwide a chance to look at its projects around the globe. The company has completed or participated in many world-renowned buildings, such as infrastructure work on Disneyland in Hong Kong, and one of the world's tallest buildings, the Shanghai World Financial Center.

Located in Western Singapore's Jurong district, the Bulim Project, undertaken by China Construction (South Pacific) Development Co Pte Ltd (CSCEC Singapore), is an on-going project covering an area of 400,000 square meters, and is part of the first phase of the Jurong Innovation District (JID) project. When finished, Bulim Square will be home to a manufacturing hub and ecosystem for R&D and technology advancement, and other things.

The project consists of four 5-6-storey buildings, a 2-storey basement complex and supporting infrastructure, which will be connected to other areas to create a future-ready, smart, highly sustainable and harmonious community.

According to the company, more than 80 percent of the employees working for CSCEC Singapore and the Bulim Square project are non-Chinese. "I'm proud and happy to be a part of CSCEC Singapore because my company united with multi-cultures, respects fairness, teamwork, trust and integrity, growth mind set, and communication transparency. Everyone is given opportunity to expose their talented skills," said Vetrivel, a supervisor of the project.

Cheong Jiawen, deputy director of Jurong Town Corp, agreed, saying "I'm very happy to say that in the past 18 months since construction began, we have developed a very good relationship with CSCEC Singapore," adding that CSCEC Singapore has also been a very good partner in the local fight against the COVID-19 pandemic.

"The project in Singapore is so impressive," said a message from an online audience on Kuaishou, a short video and livestreaming platform. "We heard a lot about the company's names recently. Days before there was a video showing five swivel bridges completed synchronous rotation and docking at a railway construction site in Beibei district of Chongqing also by CSCEC. That one is also good."

According to the company, 29 cities in 14 countries will be included in the three-month long Open Day event, showcasing CSCEC's efforts in stepping up sustainable development both domestically and globally.

As the COVID-19 pandemic continues to impact travel agencies, airlines and shipping companies around the globe, apart from CSCEC, many of its peers have also begun to announce progress on their overseas construction sites via online open events.

"Backed by various mature digital technologies, solid construction experience, corporate social responsibility and future economic synergies, these open media events will be persuasive in improving the image of Chinese companies across the world," said Gao Lingyun, a research fellow at the Institute of World Economics and Politics of the Beijing-based Chinese Academy of Social Sciences.
