Complaints against China's insurance companies increase in Q3

BEIJING -- Consumer complaints against China's insurance companies increased 8.96 percent quarter-on-quarter in the July-September period of this year, with 36,754 cases received by the China Banking and Insurance Regulatory Commission (CBIRC) and its local bureaus.

The number of cases involving property insurance companies climbed 4.29 percent quarter-on-quarter to 16,895 in the three-month period, while cases related to life insurers totaled 19,859, a quarterly increase of 13.27 percent, said the CBIRC.

The number of consumer complaints against insurance companies has remained at a high level in recent years, with most complaints related to auto insurance, life insurance or disease insurance services, according to the CBIRC.

There were 9,090 auto insurance-related complaints in the third quarter, accounting for 53.8 percent of all complaints against property insurance companies.

Of all complaints against life insurers, the numbers of cases related to life insurance and disease insurance respectively accounted for 39.68 percent and 20.96 percent, said the CBIRC.
