KIGALI - Up to 95.44 percent of Rwandans feel safe and secure in the country, compared with last year's 94.29 percent, according to a report released by the Rwanda Governance Board (RGB) on Friday.

Dubbed the Rwanda Governance Scorecard, the report assessed performance of different sectors, and safety and security performed the best, including indicators such as reconciliation, social cohesion and national unity, as well as ways of safeguarding national security.

On personal and property safety, 87.1 percent of people in the country feel safe walking at night alone, 81.9 percent believe their properties are secure, and 92.5 percent are satisfied with their personal security, it said.

The report also showed that 99.2 percent of the Rwandans feel confident in the army and confidence in the police force stands at 90.8 percent.

"We do this because we want to hold ourselves accountable, be transparent, and also use the resources we have in the best interest of our citizens," RGB's chief executive officer Usta Kaitesi said during the report-releasing event.

According to the report, the performance of the government scored 81.3 percent, up from 70.7 percent last year.
