Dongguan enterprises supporting development in Northwest China's Xinjiang Uygur autonomous region are playing an important role in promoting local economic growth and employment.

Guangdong Textile and Garment Industrial Park, located in Xinjiang's Caohu town, is one of the largest Xinjiang-supporting projects.

Three phases of the project, which involve investment from Dongguan Industrial Investment Holding Group and Dongguan-based fashion giant Yishion, were all completed in June and come into operation, with total investment hitting 3.94 billion yuan.

Since its first-phase production began in 2017, more than 200,000 tons of yarn had been sold as of the end of last year, generating roughly 4 billion yuan in revenue and contributing more than 45 million yuan in tax.

The project is now employing more than 4,300 people, of which over 75 percent are people from ethnic groups, mainly Uygurs, said Ling Li, chairman of Dongchunxing Textile, operator of the project.

Mailikamzhati Yakupu works as a quality control worker in the industrial park.

"I can earn over 3,000 yuan a month. Not only is the salary good, but also I can learn a lot of skills here," the 26-year-old Uygur said.
