NEW DELHI - The death toll in the roof collapse in a crematorium in India's northern state of Uttar Pradesh rose to 21, while around 20 others were injured, reported the Press Trust of India (PTI) news agency quoting the local police.

The accident took place when the roof of a concrete structure collapsed at a crematorium in the state's Muradnagar area, near Delhi.

The victims were attending the last rites of a dead man when the roof collapsed, reportedly due to heavy rains during the day.

Rescue work was still going on, and the injured were admitted to a local government hospital, a local cop told Xinhua over phone.

Further details are awaited.
