Deng Huilin, former deputy mayor of Chongqing and head of the municipality's Public Security Bureau, was expelled from the Communist Party of China and removed from public office for serious violations of Party discipline and laws, the country's top anti-graft watchdogs said on Monday.

Following an investigation by the CPC Central Commission for Discipline Inspection and the National Supervisory Commission, Deng was found to have seriously violated the Party's political discipline rules and is suspected of taking bribes.

The statement released by the authority showed Deng was found to be using his post to seek profit for others, illegally accepting property, speaking ill of government policies, and engaging in superstitious activities.

The investigation also found Deng frequently attended banquets that might affect the impartial execution of official duties and used his power to trade for money and sex services.

Deng's qualification as a delegate to the 19th CPC National Congress was terminated and his illicit gains will be confiscated, according to the statement, noting that his case will be referred to the procuratorate for criminal investigation and prosecution.

Deng, 55, started his political career in 1984 in his hometown, Wuhan, the capital of Central China's Hubei province, and he became deputy head of the Hubei Provincial Public Security Department in 2014.

Before Deng was transferred to work in Chongqing in 2017 as head of the city's Public Security Bureau, he worked in the Anti-secession Guidance and Coordination Office of the Commission for Political and Legal Affairs of the CPC Central Committee from June 2015 to July 2017.
