New York National Guard helicopter crash leaves 3 dead

NEW YORK - A helicopter with New York Army National Guard crashed in upstate New York on Wednesday evening, said a statement by New York State Governor Andrew Cuomo.

Three members died in the accident within the town of Mendon, the statement said.

The UH-60 medical evacuation helicopter is based at the Army Aviation Support Facility at Rochester International Airport and crashed while on a routine training mission, according to the National Guard.

An investigation is under way to determine the cause of the accident.

Cuomo directed flags on all state buildings to be lowered to half-staff on Thursday to pay tribute to the deceased.
