MUMBAI -- India's National Investigation Agency (NIA) on late Saturday night arrested a Mumbai police official in connection with a bomb scare at billionaire and business baron Mukesh Ambani's residence last month.
The assistant police inspector of Mumbai police Sachin Vaze was booked for criminal conspiracy, negligent conduct with respect to explosive substance, forgery and criminal intimidation under the Indian Penal Code.
On Feb 25, a sports utility vehicle SUV with gelatin sticks were found near the residence of Ambani, chairman of the diversified Indian conglomerate Reliance Industries, whose companies have business interest in oil refineries, telecom and retail.
Mumbai-based aotomobile parts dealer Mausukh Hiran, also the reported owner of the SUV, was found dead in the creek on the outskirts of Mumbai city on March 5. His death was allegedly linked by his family member with police official Vaze.
Media reports quoting an unnamed NIA officer alleged that the Mumbai police official had confessed to his role in the entire episode but declined to share more details at this stage.
