The Tibet autonomous region plans to invest 16 billion yuan ($2.5 billion) in various projects to keep its anti-poverty achievements top of mind, Xinhua News Agency reported.

As of 2019, the region had lifted 628,000 people out of poverty, and 74 county-level areas were removed from the poverty list, eradicating absolute poverty in the region for the first time in its history. Currently, the per capita dispensable income of the residents who were removed from the poverty list exceeds10,000 yuan annually.

Since the region launched its war on poverty years ago, it has spent more than 75 billion yuan on the effort, with more than 46 billion yuan spent on supporting various poverty-targeted industries.

In addition, a total of 964 relocation sites have been built, with 266,000 residents voluntarily relocated to improve their livelihoods.
