As expected, US Secretary of State Antony Blinken slammed the electoral reform bill that was passed by the legislature of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region on Friday, saying that "the Chinese government continues to dismantle the democratic institutions of Hong Kong, including the Legislative Council".

Yet the bill's passage keeps the power to administer the HKSAR firmly in the hands of those who love the country and love Hong Kong, and secures the constitutional order of the SAR as established by China's Constitution and Hong Kong's Basic Law.

The top diplomat of the United States also failed to mention that the electoral reform plan, that was approved by China's top legislature in March and which aims to ensure only patriots administer the SAR, enjoys the full support of the majority of Hong Kong residents.

Those such as Blinken who are criticizing the move for "decreasing Hong Kong resident's electoral representation" and claiming that it "will not foster long-term political and social stability for Hong Kong" are dissembling.

These foreign politicians have persistently interfered in Hong Kong affairs and sought to undermine the "one country, two systems" framework along with Hong Kong's prosperity and stability on the pretext of democracy and human rights, as a spokesperson for the Office of the Commissioner of the Chinese Foreign Ministry in the HKSAR said.

These politicians are blatantly distorting the truth and openly meddling in the HKSAR's legislative proceedings in a bid to belie the positive effects of the national security law for the SAR and the improvement of the electoral system as effective means of curbing the activities of the anti-China troublemakers they endorse.

Their protestations stem from the reform effectively excluding from public office those secessionists and extremists who orchestrated the campaign aimed at bringing the city to its knees by paralyzing its governance system and destroying the economy.

The callousness they have demonstrated toward the sufferings of Hong Kong residents during the months of turbulence and during the SAR's struggles to control the novel coronavirus has let the SAR residents know how much these voluble hand-wringers really care for them.

Via their proxies in the city, these people have sought to meddle in Hong Kong affairs. Instead of defending the interests of the Hong Kong residents as they claim, they are intent on sabotaging them as part of their pressure campaign against the central authorities.

Blinken is just wailing over the fact that plugging the loopholes in the SAR's legal, electoral and educational systems brings to an end any hope of a color campaign in Hong Kong. This is a victory for the Hong Kong people.
